During my residency at Artspace in 2015, I took a closer look at SE Raleigh, one of the predominantly African American neighborhoods in the vicinity of Artspace. The neighborhood is in the process of being gentrified. Long-term residents can no longer afford to pay rising property taxes or rent and are forced to sell their houses and move away. Younger, more affluent, mainly white people buy the houses, renovate them and totally change the face of the neighborhood.
